Police search home of missing Portage teacher

Portage home searched by police

PORTAGE, MICH. - For the first time since she disappeared three weeks ago, police have searched the Portage home where teacher Theresa Lockhart lived with her husband Christopher.

They have said all along her husband is a person of interest, but until now police couldn’t get a warrant to search the home the Lockharts shared on Poplar Bluff Court.

That changed Wednesday, June 7, when local and state police detectives went in to search their house and vehicles.

Lockhart, 44, is a Spanish teacher at Schoolcraft High School. She has not contacted family, used her phone or credit cards since her disappearance May 18.

Police say her husband has not been very cooperative and some neighbors wonder why.

“You hear on the news about the husband not cooperating,” says neighbor Bill Gentner. “It’s crazy, and you have not heard anything from her.

"To me, he is either guilty or he knows what happened.”

Portage police said execution of the search warrant was part of their continuing investigation into the disappearance of Lockhardt. They don’t say if they found any clues or other evidence.
