Friday is the 20th annual United Way Day of Caring

United Way's day of caring brings volunteers to Equest Center in Rockford.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Friday is the 20th annual United Way Day of Caring event, it's the largest corporate volunteering day in West Michigan.

Nearly 1,400 people from 25 local companies will work to complete more than 90 volunteer projects in our community! There is a site open to the public to volunteer as well, at the Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding in Rockford.

According to organizers, Day of Caring volunteers are going to be helping stack hay, clear pastures, clean the barn, weed whack fence lines and do general maintenance around the facility. These jobs are important to help maintain a clean environment that is enjoyable for the riders and horses.

Volunteers are needed to help do yard work, keep up barns and grounds, and clean stalls. Kids ages 10+ are welcome, but anyone under the age of 14 needs to be accompanied by a parent. Volunteers can click here to register to volunteer Friday or donate to the United Way at any time.

Volunteers are needed at the Equest Center all the time, not just on the Day of Caring.

Classes can't run without volunteers there to help in the barn, lead horses and side walk with our riders. There is a new volunteer orientation next Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the barn. No registration required, everyone is encouraged to come!
