ROCKFORD, MICH. - The Rockford High School Marching Band will perform in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, representing the state of Michigan.
Rockford was picked from 175 applicants, as one of 10 bands to march in the parade.
"Rockford High School Marching Band mixes a mature symphonic sound with exceptional marching and maneuvering every time they take the field for a performance,” said Wesley Whatley, creative director of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, in a press release.
The students were surprised Friday morning with the announcement.
“I am thrilled beyond words that our students have been selected to participate in this historical, national showcase," said Brian Phillips, director of bands at Rockford High School, in the release.
"This truly will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our students will never forget."
The band will spend the next 18 months planning and rehearsing.
