Rockford hires new city manager

ROCKFORD, MICH. - The City of Rockford has announced the approval of a newly hired city manager.

City Council selected Thad Beard to be the next city manager since the previous city manager, Michael Young, died suddenly of a stroke in 2016.

Beard was one of five candidates selected for the open manager position. The interviews were held at a public hearing on Wednesday and following the hearing, Beard was selected.

Beard is currently the city manager is Otsego, a position he's held for 17 years and prior to that, Beard was the assistant city manager for Wayland.

According to officials, no time has been set for Beard to take over city manager duties in Rockford; it is expected to take several weeks to make the transition.
