COURTLAND TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Kent County deputies say 34-year-old David Applegate killed his mother, 59-year-old Gloria Launiere, before taking his own life.
They don't know why the Rockford man did it, but Sheriff Larry Stelma says, “We believe it was strictly a family issue.”
Monday, March 20, deputies were called to do a welfare check at the home on a private drive off 14 Mile Road in Courtland Township. When they arrived at the house, they say Launiere was already dead.
Applegate was injured and later died at the hospital.
Neighbors say Applegate came home to live with his mother and stepfather after he was hit by a car in Arizona.
”We never really socialized,” say Matt Steiner, a nearby neighbor. “They pretty much kept to themselves. They had brought her son back that had been hit by a car and needed some help. I think it’s sad.”
