Caledonia teen killed in accident

CALEDONIA, MICH. - A 16-year-old girl was killed in a single car crash in Caledonia Township. 

Emergency crews responded to the scene at Cherry Valley Avenue, south of 76th Street at 3:17 pm on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3:17 p.m. 

The victim, 16-year-old Macayla Lee Kohn, was the lone occupant of a Chevy Tahoe.

According to a release from the Kent County Sheriff's Department, Kohn was traveling northbound on Cherry Valley Ave. and drove off the paved portion of road. The vehicle overcorrected, lost control and struck a tree according to the sheriff's department. 

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor, but the accident remains under investigation. Kohn was wearing her seatbelt. 

According to the Caledonia High School athletics website, Kohn was a member of the Varsity Volleyball and Softball teams.
