PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - The staff at Lincoln Heights Elementary in Greenville are telling the children why 30 year old first grade teacher Aaron Haynes won't be coming back.
"Mr. Haynes has been a remarkable positive influence on many young lives," says Greenville school superintendent Pete Haines.
Aaron Haynes was killed Monday morning after a head on crash on the East Beltline near 5 Mile Road in Plainfield Township.
He was on his way to work.
State police say his vehicle was hit by a pickup going the wrong way in the northbound lane.
They suspect a drunk driver without a license was behind the wheel.
"We can't find where he has a drivers license," says Rockford Post Commander F/Lt. Christopher McIntire. "We found a Washington State ID card, but no Washington drivers license."
Investigators have not located anyone who actually witnessed the impact.
Michelle Woolsten, her teenage daughter and 10 year old son were the first to drive up to the scene.
"We could see someone hanging out the door on the ground," says Woolsten. "I was like, 'I got to get my kids out of here! My daughter started crying when she realized what she saw."
Police say the suspected drunk driver was using a pickup registered to a woman in Wyoming, Michigan. Investigators say they will identify the suspect after he is charged and arraigned.
"If people would witness something so horrendous I think they would drive so much better," says Woolsten. "I'll never forget it, ever. I swear I will never forget it."
