GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - An 11-year-old act of kindness continues Monday as a West Michigan company will work through the morning to bring food to families in need.
The annual Rockford Construction food drive supports Martin Luther King Junior Leadership Academy families. Those families really depend on the two meals a day their kids get between classes. But, with school closed for two weeks during the holidays, families who would normally go without food don't thanks to the Rockford Construction drive.
This year Rockford Construction raised $9,000 in pure donations, allowing 55 of Grand Rapids' most economically challenged families to receive an abundance of dinner fixings that will feed them throughout the holiday break.
About 40 Rockford Construction employees worked Monday morning to sort and box the food for families who will be picking it up throughout the day.
