GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- Lansing mayor Virg Bernero says state government is broken and he is the leader who can fix it.
"Enough is enough," Bernero said Monday in Grand Rapids. "It's time to make Michigan work again."
45 year old Bernero says his record as a Lansing mayor who maintained services without increasing taxes or laying off employees proves he can get results.
"It will require every bit of our creativity and every ounce of our determination," says Bernero. "And it will take all of us working together to ensure that we leave on one behind."
Some critics call Bernero a "job jumper". He's already served as a county commissioner, state representative, state senator and now, a city mayor.
Bernero calls each job change a "promotion" by the people.
"I think if you do the job while you are there, that's the important thing," says Bernero. "The people saw fit to move me and I felt needed in another position. Now I think we need leadership at the state capitol so I'm asking people to move me across the street."
Lansing City Hall is directly across from the State Capitol.
State Representative Alma Wheeler Smith of Ypsilanti is the only other democrat officially running for Governor.
Businesswoman Denise Ilitch, former state treasurer Bob Bowman and Speaker Of The House Andy Dillion may also enter the race.
