KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- Students and staff at Forest Hills Northern High School are learning it only takes small steps to prevent the growing problem of childhood obesity. Fifty staff members were challenged to take 10,000 steps per day as part of a healthy lifestyle. The students also raised $1,000 for the YMCA Healthy U program and logged their steps with a pedometer.
Forest Hills Northern Teacher Lori Rohen says, "The kids were always asking: 'what's on your waist, what's in your pocket?' And it really got to be 'how many miles have you done, and how many steps did you walk today?'"
Over 6 weeks, 50 staff members logged over 24 million steps, the equivalent of 12,000 miles.
