Suspected shooter identified in crime near Grand Valley State University

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A 23-year-old man has been arraigned following a shooting near Grand Valley State University's Allendale campus.

The suspect, Brent Alexander Douglas, was arrested over the weekend following the shooting early Saturday, Oct. 1.

Douglas is charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Police say he knows the victim, a 28-year-old Grand Rapids man.

Douglas remains in the Ottawa County Jail where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Michigan Drive Apartments near North Campus and Lake Michigan drives. Police found the victim in the parking lot when they arrived. An update Tuesday reveals the victim continues to recover in a Grand Rapids hospital.

Neither the victim or the suspect are students at GVSU.
