GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Grand Rapids Pride Center, Grand Rapids Trans Foundation and the TDoR Committee hosted the Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil and call to action on Monday night, Nov. 20.
The day is recognized nationally as a way to honor the lives of those who were lost due to acts of transphobic violence.
"We're hoping that we can bring light that as trans individuals, we're just humans," said Ellie Webster the Vice President of the Grand Rapids Pride Center. "As a community, we are suffering. We are trying to get to a point where we can just live our lives and not have to worry about this."
The local Transgender Day of Remembrance event was held at the Goei Center, and it presented three speakers: Jeynce Mizrahi, Kyn E and Jazz McKinney.
