Update on tornado damage & clean-up

WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- For the neighbors around Ideal Park in Wyoming, the mess is overwhelming.

Irene Reiffer was home Sunday night when the tornado moved through.

"I heard a high-pitched whistle," she says. "I just ducked -- couldn't get in my crawl space fast enough. It was right there. I saw it."

Monday morning, Irene had to carve her way out of the driveway. Now, she has to think about insurance. She can't move anything else until she gets an estimate.

"I have a camper underneath that blue tarp. I have a boat that's underneath all the trees. My garage, is like, forget about it."

Insurance adjusters were seen Tuesday making their rounds to some of the homes.

Javier Rodriguez owns a rental home.

Of the the garage there with a tree on it: "Totally damaged," he says. "New truck inside, too."

Rodriguez will likely receive a check for the garage within a few days. He'll clean up the rest.

"It's a lot of work. That's what I see. A lot of work," Javier says. "I will do this myself."

Back at Irene's house, she will be getting help to clean up the mess.

"Because I got to get back to work. I can't afford to take off," she says.

It's a lot to deal with, but Irene and the others know it will get done. Progress is already being made. The power around Ideal Park is already back on.
