2 women seriously hurt when tree limb causes pole to fall on them

We continue to follow the breaking news from Muskegon County where a tree limb fell and two women were injured.

LAKETON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A large tree branch fell in the area of West River and Whitehall roads, causing a utility pole to fall and seriously injure two people.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, near a Dollar General store in the area, according to a witness speaking with WZZM 13's Jon Mills.

The witness said he was sleeping when he heard a loud crack. Just then, he ran outside and found two people unresponsive: they are identified as 57 and 69-year-old women.

Both victims are recovering at an area hospital with critical injuries.

Another group of people were narrowly missed as they walked from the store, the witness said.

At least five power poles were snapped by the fallen limb, according to dispatch reports. Rescuers at the scene have requested a Consumers Energy crew to respond and fix.
