Woman flown to hospital following intersection crash; 5 others hurt

Eight people were involved in a crash Sunday afternoon in Mecosta County.

BARRYTON, MICH. - A driver was flown to a Grand Rapids hospital by Aero Med helicopter following a crash at a Mecosta County intersection.

The driver, a Barryton woman, sustained life-threatening injuries when her vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a vehicle that failed to stop at a sign at 19 Mile Road and M-66, according to a Mecosta County Sheriff's Office news release.

Police say the vehicle that did not stop was driven by a Big Rapids woman. Crews responded to the scene just before 1:20 p.m. Sunday, March 19.

Five people were in the vehicle driven by the Barryton woman: she was flown to Grand Rapids, two others were taken to an area hospital for treatment and two more were treated at the scene. 

Three people were inside the Big Rapids vehicle, and all were taken to a local hospital.
