Woman killed when car loses control, lands in Barry County pond

Police say alcohol was likely a factor in a car crash overnight in Barry County.

HOPE TWP, MICH. - A 29-year-old Hastings woman is dead, after the vehicle she was riding in flipped over into a pond Saturday night.

The Barry County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Joshua Michael Allerding was driving north on M-43 when he lost control on a curve near Cloverdale Road in Hope Township, around 11:30 p.m.

The vehicle flipped and was partially submerged in a pond. Camilia Ray was trapped inside. She was rescued and taken to a local hospital. She was later pronounced dead. Deputies believe alcohol played a role in this crash.
