Wyoming Police: Missing autistic teen found

WYOMING, MICH. - UPDATE: As of 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, police report that Shawn was found safe and returned to his family.

The Wyoming Department of a Public Safety was seeking assistance from the public in locating a missing autistic 17-year-old who voluntarily walked away from his residence near 32nd and Clyde Park in Wyoming.

Shawn Lawson is high functioning but his parents are concerned for his wellbeing due, in part, to his confrontational nature when dealing with other people.

Shawn is described by his parents as a light-skinned black male, 5-foot-11 and 200-pounds with short black hair.

At the time he went missing, Shawn was wearing a black leather coat, gray jacket with blue sleeves, green and white MSU t-shirt, blue sweatpants and gray shoes.

Shawn was carrying his skateboard when he left his home Friday evening, but was found early Saturday morning according to authorities.

WYDPS is asking anyone with information regarding Shawn's whereabouts to contact the police department at 616-530-7300 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
