Lowell City Council takes action to close biodigester

Steps taken to shut down Lowell Biodigester

LOWELL, MICH. - The Lowell City Council is taking steps to shut down the biodigester run by Lowell Energy A.D.

The smell coming from the plant has been an issue in the city for months.  Earlier this month the company said the smell was under control.

On November 8th they were issued a seven day notice for a citation for odor from the day before.  They were cited again for odor on the 14th.  Monday night the City Council voted to have the City Attorney and City manager enforce the seven day provision agreed to on September 22.

The city will now seek a court order telling Lowell Energy A.D. to stop operating the biodigester until they can demonstrate that the problem is 100% corrected.
