Man fires gun after retrieving stolen lawn tractor

PINE GROVE TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - A Gobles, Michigan man was arrested after firing a gun into the air and into a parked vehicle after being upset with family members about a stolen lawn tractor.

A Van Buren County Sheriff's deputy and a Michigan State Police trooper were sent to a home in the 28000 block of 20th Avenue on a 911 call of a man firing a handgun.

Investigators say the 49-year-old suspect had found his lawn tractor, which had been reported stolen, a short distance away from his home and he had retrieved it and drove it back home. When he returned home, he argued with family members and started shooting a handgun into the air. Witnesses were able to get the gun away from the man.

The suspect confirmed to police that he had fired the gun and had acted out of anger over personal issues. He was arrested for reckless use of a firearm. He'll be identified after his arraignment.

More charges may be filed later regarding the stolen lawn tractor. No one was injured in the incident.
