ROCKFORD, Mich. (WZZM) Lisa Taylor and Troy Adams combined their love of horses into a business. "It all started off as just buying and selling a couple horses to try to support our hobby of it," said Adams.

A horse used to fetch them a couple thousand dollars, "With the economy the way it is you can't even find a home for these guys," said Lisa Taylor.

Hidden Horse Haven is more of a shelter now for 40 sick, injured horses and other animals like this reindeer. "When Bubi got here he had gotten an infection in his antlers and got into the base of his neck," said Adams.

There's mounting vet bills and worn horse blankets need replacing. Healthy animals are simply abandoned.

"A lot of people are losing their homes and leaving their animals. People are calling us everyday day of the week saying, 'can you take another horse? Can you take another horse?' It's just a matter of getting enough water in there, so it soaks it up and then I have to let it sit for a bit," said Taylor.

Taylor economizes but there's a long list of mouths to feed.

"If they were to leave here if we lost everything and had to get rid of them there is a good chance they would go to slaughter," said Taylor.

The sick reindeer can't help pull the sleigh of food and they certainly can't pay for it. $2,000 a month is spent on food with no outside funding.

Adams and Taylor say they will shoulder the expense and the 24 hours work as long as they can to keep hidden haven going.
