GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - General Motors is closing dealerships across the country. Last month the automaker sent notices to 1,100 dealers it plans to cut ties with.
WZZM 13 News has learned Fox Pontiac, Buick, GMC on Alpine Avenue in Kent County has received a reprieve. Chief Financial Officer Diane Maher of Fox Motors confirms that dealership will not be closing.
In Holland, Crown Motors, which sells the Cadillac and Buick makes for GM, received a letter Tuesday telling them that GM will be cutting ties with them. The General Manager Brad Siegers didn't wish to make further comments until they discuss the case further with their lawyers. Crown also sells Honda and Mazda cars.
Fox Motors is now the number two dealership group in Michigan, and Maher said Wednesday they have plans to become number one. "We think there's a lot of opportunity for us to grow in a market like this; once we get out of this tough time we'll be positioned to succeed."
