MUSKEGON (WZZM) - A gas leak has forced residents of a lakeshore retirement community from their homes.
Emergency crews evacuated the Trinity Manor Senior Housing around 7 p.m. Thursday after a road crew struck a gas line on Marquette Avenue.
A man who lives at the apartments tells WZZM 13 management was still trying to air out the complex. Earlier in the evening, the senior residents were told it was too dangerous to stay in their homes, but many were hesitant to leave because they didn't have time to gather their essentials.
Some even tried to go back hours later, but were turned away. Mohammadou Sagnia complained some residents were worried about their oxygen tanks depleting or missing a dose of their medication.
WZZM 13 tried to contact Trinity Manor by phone. A message greeting says the building has been evacuated due to a gas line break on Marquette Avenue. Tenants should call (231) 767-8029 for periodically for updates and when it is safe to return. Please do not return to the building until an "all clear safe to return message has been posted on this machine."
The Red Cross was on the scene Thursday night, offering lodging options.
