(WZZM)-Two Newaygo County men hunting for deer say they spotted a cougar instead. They took video of the large cat, walking through the woods.

The animal was spotted November 7th in Grant, about a ½ mile off of M-37. The men spotted the cat around 4pm.

Brian Shave shot amateur video from a tree stand. He says he and his brother, Bruce, were looking for deer, when they spotted something large, with a long tail.

They immediately thought it looked like a very large cat. "And then I saw it poke its head up. And it turned and looked at me and it was a friggen' cougar, a mountain lion, a cat. Something I've never seen before in the woods. I grabbed my camera and tried to get a picture of it."

Bruce reported the sighting to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. A spokesman says the agency is reviewing the video.

The D-N-R recently had its first confirmed sighting of a cougar in the Eastern U-P.
