WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)- The intersection of Alpine Avenue and 3 Mile Road is clear after being shutdown on Saturday, Nov. 28 from a two car accident involving a downed utility pole.

The pole and wires were thrown across the road after the two cars collided. The Walker police department spent the morning diverting traffic away from the scene on both sides.

"About 10:30 this morning we were called to an accident at 3 Mile and Alpine. Once we got here, we noticed that there's two vehicles involved in the crash," said Walker police sergeant Keith Mankel.

"There's a silver pick-up truck that was attempting to make a left hand turn (onto 3 Mile road) and turned in front of a north bound vehicle. After the collision, the north bound vehicle (white Cadillac) ended up striking a telephone pole, which caused the power lines and traffic signal lights to come down.

"There's no injuries in the crash and both vehicles are un drivable at this time."

WZZM 13 News spoke with the man, who was driving that pick-up truck, after the accident about what happened.

The man, who's a Grand Rapids, Mich., native and wished not to share his name with us, said the white Cadillac traveling north bound on Alpine smacked into his truck, causing it to turn around "like a helicopter" before running into the utility pole. According to the man, the white Cadillac was traveling at about 45 mph when it collided with his truck.

According to the Walker police department, "Consumers (Energy) says they're gonna replace the pole tomorrow."

Since Alpine Avenue is one of the busiest areas to drive in West Michigan, the Walker police department offers its advice for those who frequently travel through the busy area:

"It's controlled by a traffic signal so people just need to learn when the light turns yellow, they need to start slowing down and stop, and not try to beat the yellow light."
