Beyoncé is the latest pop star to perform at the CMAs

On Wednesday, it was announced Beyoncé would become the latest mainstream pop star to go country during a performance at the 50th annual Country Music Awards.

The award show's co-host Brad Paisley confirmed the appearance via Twitter.

"Frequently, country crosses over," Paisley tweeted. "But every now & then a major pop superstar wants to be a part of this too. Welcome, Beyoncé."

It's unclear what or with whom the pop/R&B star will perform, but Beyoncé received popular and critical acclaim for her latest album Lemonade.

Queen Be is just the latest pop star to take the stage at the CMAs, joining musicians like Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Lionel Richie, Steven Tyler and others who have performed in the past.

The tradition dates back decades, as early as 1996, when Michael Bolton joined Wynonna Judd on the stage.

It may not be the first time a pop star has taken the stage, but Beyoncé joins an eclectic cast of pop stars to make the jump into country music – if only for one night.

The 50th annual CMA Awards, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
