New development in Grand Rapids will offer housing for less

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A new development in Grand Rapids will take the place of three vacant houses on Michigan Street.

The project is called Midtown CityZen and will be situated on the Corner of Michigan and Benson, west of College Avenue. The new building will be four stories high, and feature retail space on the ground floor and 44 micro apartments in the upper floors.

Housing in Midtown CityZen will be rent restricted. The goal is to help those who do not qualify for income restricted housing, but cannot afford market rate apartments. The 44 units will be made available to people who make 80 percent of the area's median income.

The project is scheduled to break ground this summer and expected to be complete in a year.
