WHITEHALL, Mich. (WZZM) - The Muskegon County cities of Whitehall and Montague have an ongoing friendly rivalry, which will soon include competing tourist attractions.

Montague boasts the World's Largest Weather Vane, but organizers in Whitehall say they will soon open the World's Smallest Railroad Museum.

The weather vane in Montague is impressive, but over the river and across the bridge, Whitehall volunteers are excited to open a unique attraction of their own and it will not stand out, by going bigger than their neighbors.

It may never be certified, but the Little Red Caboose will soon be the site of what could be the World's Smallest Railroad Museum.

At 8' by 23' , museum organizer Helen Fink plans to use every nook and corner and she means every conceivable inch of space.

"They had a bathroom (in here)," said Fink. "It was crude."

The group is counting on the people of West Michigan to help fill the caboose. The Montague caboose and others like it were serviced at railyards in Grand Rapids, which means items of significance might be in people's attics or garages. Anyone with items for the museum, can call Helen Fink at 231-893-5323.
