
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Three students in the GRAPCEP Engineering & Biomedical GRPS Center of Innovation at Creston High School have been awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarships which covers all expenses for graduate and undergraduate studies at the student's college of choice.
Darrartu Ali, Storee Harris, and Saul Valle won the scholarships which have an estimated value of $240,000 per student.
"The partnership that Davenport University's Grand Rapid Area Pre-College Engineering Program (GRAPCEP) has with Creston High School has resulted in a truly college preparatory curriculum, and good students like these amazing young people are succeeding in high numbers," said Sandra Burmeister, Executive Director in a press release. "Our students work hard, along with the consistent encouragement of the GRPS teachers in our program, the Creston and GRAPCEP staff. We are all so proud of these exemplary students."
1,000 Gates Millennium Scholarships are awarded nationally.
Darrartu plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall where she will pursue a degree in a medically related field.
Storee plans to attend Howard University in Washington D.C. this fall where she will begin her course of study to become a medical researcher.
Saul plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall and major in Pre-Medicine.
All three students participated in the GRAPCEP Internship Program last summer and earned positions at the prestigious Van Andel Research Institute.
