LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Machines that allow people to inhale alcohol are now illegal in Michigan. Governor Granholm signed a bill prohibiting devices known as Alcohol Without Liquid that vaporize hard liquor. The law makes it illegal to possess, sell or use an AWOL machines. Violators face up to 90 days in jail and a 500 dollar fine.

Critics say the machines cause a more rapid, intense buzz because the alcohol moves through the lungs instead of the digestive system.

Representative Rick Jones of Grand Ledge introduced the bill. Jones, a former county sheriff, said the machines promote alcohol abuse and underage drinking.
