Zeeland moves toward lifting ban on alcohol

Zeeland - The City Council voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance that would allow the sale of alcohol in the city of Zeeland provided that voters are willing to repeal the current ban on the sale of alcohol when they vote on November 7, 2006.

Nothing would change unless voters agree on the measure. The proposal would allow sales of alcohol in restaurants along Washington Avenue, State Street near 196 and parts of Main. Monday night's action would still require voters to repeal the current ban on alcohol sales, which will likely be on the ballot in November.
