As people flock to local orchards this year, they have more than cider and donuts on their minds. They are in search of a popular apple called a Honeycrisp.

Ed Robinette grows them at his farm off of Four Mile Road in Grand Rapids. He says ?They have really exploded in popularity. It's hard to plant enough every year to keep up with the demand."

Robinette started growing the apples 6 years ago and he's been planting about 400 new trees each year.

So, what makes the Honeycrisp Apple so good? Ingrid Cebelak of Grant, Michigan says they are crunchy, sweet, and juicy. She just drove 40 miles to get some of the Honeycrisp Apples for her friends. She says, ?The apples are absolutely wonderful. We stopped for some on Saturday and our friends didn't know we were going and they wanted some, so I am here getting theirs."

The Honeycrisp Apple was created in Minnesota 15 years ago and is now popular across the country. They grow best in a cooler climate, so Michigan is ideal. At Robinette's Apple Haus, hundreds of apples will be shipped to customers in other states.

"We will run out far sooner than we would like. It will be early October when we run out. There just aren't enough to go around, says Robinette."
