The Grand River got a good cleaning Friday morning and you won't believe all the junk they pulled out.
It was all organized by Grand Rapids electrical engineering firm, Feyen-Zylstra. Dora Baker volunteered for the clean up. She says, "I was handed this assignment to track what they're pulling out of water."
The list included lots of tires, shopping carts, and a couch. There was a steel beam attached to a car door. Crews also came up with a computer monitor, purse, and road sign.
"It's amazing", says Bob Zylstra. He's the one who organized the "Cleaner River Rally". He and his employees are part of the "Adopt-A ?Stream? program created by the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. Zylstra says, "This is the greatest natural asset the city has.?
Zylstra says he's seen this part of the Grand River in the 200 block of Front Street, get junkier as the years go by. He says the river is unusually low and it seemed like the perfect time to clean it up. "It's really important for us to take care of it. Do our part", says Zylstra.
