GRAND HAVEN - Michgan State Police arrested Nancy L. Kalkman of Casnovia in connection with a false police report regarding a bomb in Casnovia on July 18th.
The report caused the evacuation of residents from their homes and an intense response by public safety officials.
Kalkman is charged with "False Police Report of a Misdemeanor". The investigation allegedly shows that she made the report of a bomb being in a car on Main Street while she knew that the device was a novelty item and not a bomb.
Kalkman turned herself into State Police Officials and was arraigned in 60th District Court. A Pre-Trial exam is scheduled for October 19, 2007.
The Muskegon County Prosecutors Office has been asked to include a request for restitution for the agencies involved as the case moves through the Justice System (the amount is still being compiled).
The State Police committed troopers from the Grand Haven and Rockford Posts, as well as two Bomb Squads, which included a remotely operated bomb robot. The Casnovia Fire Department also committed resources to the call.
False Report of a Misdemeanor is a misdemeanor punishable by 93 Days in Jail and/or a $500.00 fine.
