MIDLAND, Mich. - A Midland woman says her brother is a man confirmed dead in the California wildfires. Authorities say 52-year-old Thomas Varshock of Tecate died in the town on the U.S. side of the border southeast of San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office says Varshock's body was found Sunday afternoon, but details weren't released. Julie Varshock tells WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan that her brother died trying to save his 15-year-old son. She tells the station her nephew remains hospitalized with burns to 60 percent of his body.
