The Montcalm County Sheriff's Department has arrest warrants for two people, who prosecutors say are responsible for the abuse and neglect of animals at a Six Lakes home.
Misdemeanor warrants are out for the previous owners of the home on Derby Road, Michael and Theresa Shumacher.
In March, the remains of several animals were found at the home, including dogs, sheep and pigs.
One of the neighbors, Deborah Byrne, says she is glad something is finally being done. ?I'm glad and sad at the same time. That it took so long to get something done. I'm glad it's going to be over with.?
Byrne says her neighbors, the Shumachers, had several animals on their property. She says she notified authorities, but nothing was done. "Animals were dying over there. It was horrific the way them animals were."
Byrne contacted WZZM 13 News in March. There were dead animals all over the property. ?Chicken, geese, ducks, dogs, cats, sheep, pigs, they even had cattle out here. And they all died."
Byrne says she still gets sad thinking about it, and "Coming home every day watching these animals suffer like they did."
It took several weeks, but finally, the two former homeowners will face charges. Theresa Schumacher will be charged with 8 counts of animal cruelty and Michael Schumacher will face 4 counts of the same.
For Byrne there is some justice. "I'm glad the community came together and got it taken care of."
Some of the rescued dogs were adopted out. WZZM 13 News previously focused on one dog, Taz, and the family that adopted him. Click here to read the story of Taz's adoption.
The Montcalm County Sheriff's Department says the Schumacher's are not yet in custody. The penalty for misdemeanor animal cruelty is 93 days in jail.
