LINCOLN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich (WZZM) -- Amtrak's Pere Marquette line arrived in Grand Rapids two hours late after striking a person on the train tracks. It happened around 8:00 Friday night near Marquette Wood Road in Lincoln Charter Township. The train was on its way from Chicago to Grand Rapids at the time.

Two engineers for Amtrak tell police they sounded a warning horn several times when they saw the person on the tracks. The person ignored several more blasts before engineers used the train's emergency stop. The train was unable to stop on time and struck the passenger. The victim died at the scene. Amtrak says the train was going about 65mph at the time.

Right now, the victim is described as a white male. He has yet to be properly identified. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident.

There were no injuries to passengers or train employees.
