LANSING, Mich. (WZZM) -- Green today, jobs tomorrow -- that's the title of a conference held today in Lansing.

The department of energy, labor and economic growth is focusing on the green jobs initiative as part of the Governor Granholm's "No Worker Left Behind."

Today was all about making and remaking Michigan with green technologies.

Van Jones, White House Council on Environmental Quality says, "The Governor's commitment to smart batteries is something that is way steps ahead, they're still talking about solar panels, they're not thinking about storage, but the real race here is about storage."

Colleges and universities are in Lansing to lean and talk about training and retraining students for the jobs of tomorrow.

"GVSU keeps 80 percent plus of its students in West Michigan so it's imperative that we learn where the jobs of tomorrow will be," says Norman Christopher of Grand Valley State University.

People here are not only learning about but promoting green energy technologies.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm|(D) Michigan says "We don't know whether replace lost manufacturing jobs but we do know that it will be a piece of the solution that will be very significant."

Today's conference shows Michigan is looking ahead to the green future.
