Comstock Park, Mich. (WZZM) - Do you have a plan if your home catches fire? A national organization would like in-home sprinklers to be part of it.
The Phoenix Society was at 5th 3rd Ballpark in Comstock Park Saturday morning to demonstrate the difference between a home without and one with a sprinkler system.
The Phoenix Society is pushing for the state of Michigan to adopt a new housing code that would require all new homes to have a sprinkler system included in the construction.
The group says a sprinkler system not only saves lives and reduces fire damage by 71-percent, it's also affordable.
"Essentially every room has a sprinkler and it doesn't take many heads to cover a whole room," said Amy Acton, Executive Director of Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. "One sprinkler head can cover a 12x12 room."
The average cost of a sprinkler system is about one percent of the cost of your home.
