
IONIA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) - The Ionia City Manager says It won't be until Wednesday before crews can start sorting through the parking lot at the B-93 Birthday Bash in Ionia.
After the water finally crests and recedes to a manageable level, they can begin to formulate a plan to extract the hundreds of cars left in the water.
The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids has also shut down the overnight shelter, which housed more than 130 evacuees Saturday night from the flood. The flood trapped a record crowd of nearly 60,000 people at the fairgrounds.
The Ionia Public Safety Department said that dozens received medical treatment for things like dehydration and minor injuries, but no one was seriously injured.
The flooding also forced concert organizers to cancel the event for Sunday.
The Public Safety Department says there are more than 500 cars left in the parking lot after the Grand River spilled over its banks because of Friday night's heavy rain.
Flood waters touched the bottom of the cars parked in the parking lot. Witnesses say the waters rose to waist-high in some areas.
