GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - One West Michigan hospital is above the national average when it comes to survival rates among heart patients.
Recently WZZM 13, along with our newspaper partner USA Today, surveyed over 5,000 hospitals across the nation to measure death rates from heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia.
Spectrum Health ranked above the national average in all three categories. Mercy Health Partners fell below the national average for deaths from pneumonia, and Saint Mary's Health Care, Mercy Health Partners, and Borgess Health ranked above the national average in heart failure re-admissions.
All of the numbers are based on hospital data from July 2005 through 2008 and were compiled with help from the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
