Solon Township, Mich. (WZZM) - A 19-year-old Wyoming man has died following a serious crash right outside of Cedar Springs.

Around 10:30 Saturday night, Cedar Springs Police say the driver of a red Jeep SUV heading north on White Creek Avenue pulled out in front of a white pickup truck heading west on 17 Mile Road.

Witnesses told police the SUV stopped at the light before driving in front of the truck.

The truck hit the SUV in the front passenger side door. The two men in the Jeep both went to the hospital with critical injuries.

"We have a 35-year-old driver from Rockford and his 19-year-old passenger from the city of Wyoming both taken in critical condition to the hospital," said Roger Parent, the Chief of Police in Cedar Springs.

Parent says one of the two men had to be extricated from the SUV.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 33-year-old man from Howard City, was not hurt.

"The driver of the large white pickup truck actually was wearing a seatbelt," said Parent. "Because of the size of the vehicle, he's walking and talking and doesn't need any type of medical attention."

Cedar Springs Police are looking at alcohol as a factor in the crash.

"The red vehicle that was northbound appears to have alcohol involved," said Parent. "We had indication that alcohol was within the vehicle, open containers and the smell and odor of alcohol and spilled alcohol on the part of the jeep vehicle."

Police closed one lane of 17 Mile Road while they worked at the scene.
