BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Oakland County Sheriff officials say they are investigating the death of a man who was Tasered after he fled police, struck multiple vehicles and assaulted officers.
Bloomfield Township police said officers were alerted about 5:45 p.m. Thursday to a van driving erratically in the Detroit suburb. They said the man struck patrol cars as he fled police in a van and later crashed in nearby Troy.
Authorities said the man then left his vehicle and began assaulting officers, who responded by using a Taser. Police said in a statement the Taser did not stop the man's "violent behavior."
Police said the unidentified suspect became unresponsive after being handcuffed and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Officers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
