MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - An animal adoption group on the Lakeshore sent warnings to its members last week to be on the lookout for someone trying to steal dogs. The warning came just days before a Wyoming girl had her pet taken from her hands.
Since 2002, dog adoptions at the Muskegon County Pound are handled by volunteers with Pound Buddies. The adoption group's president, Connie Karry, says she's heard stories about a man in a white van trying to steal dogs.
"Our concern is it does not have to be a white van," explained Karry. "They do steal animals for different reasons and they are not always nice reasons. So, we encourage everyone to keep an eye on their animals. Do not put them out unattended...just need to be protective of your pet."
Sixty Pound Buddies volunteers were notified by e-mail last week to be on the look out for a white van. The e-mail cites allegations of attempted dognappings in the Muskegon, Montague and Whitehall areas.
Thursday, in Wyoming, the Storey family had their 12-week old English Bulldog 'Sasha' taken right from their front yard. The man who alledgedly grabbed the dog got away in a white van.
