Oakland County deputy killed during police pursuit

BRANDON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department has died after being hit and killed during an early morning police pursuit.

According to our ABC affiliate in Detroit, WXYZ, the chase started in Lapeer County and headed west on I-69 to southbound M-15 and then entered Oakland County into Brandon Township.

Around 12:30 a.m., the deputy was about to deploy "stop sticks" outside his patrol car at the intersection of M-15 and Seymour Lake Road. The suspect then hit the deputy, causing the suspect's vehicle to roll over.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene. 

The deputy is a 22 year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. His identity is not being released at this time.
