OK Conference enforces chant bans at football games

OK conference to enforce fan conduct rules

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Recent behavior by students at a Grand Rapids High School football game is leading to the enforcement of fan behavior rules during sporting events.

OK Conference Commissioner Jim Haskins sent an email to schools yesterday saying fans will only be allowed to chant 'U-S-A, U-S-A' immediate;y after the playing of the national anthem.

Haskins says some fans have been using the chant during other parts of the game, changing the words,  and inserting offensive language.

The decision comes after students from Forest Hills Central displayed a Betsy Ross Flag and Donald Trump banner while chanting the phrase during a game against Ottawa Hills High school last Friday.

A parent at that game complained the behavior was inappropriate and racially insensitive because the Betsy Ross Flag is now used by some white supremacy groups.
