Ordinance rejected that would limit panhandling in Grand Rapids

GR City Commission voted on ordinance on panhandling.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Grand Rapids City Commission voted against an ordinance that would restrict panhandling in the city.

The ordinance would have specified when and where panhandlers could ask people for money, but it was rejected with vote of four to two.

A number of people spoke out against the issue saying the ordinance would punish people who are homeless.

This is the second time in three years that a vote to limit panhandling has failed in Grand Rapids.
