West Ottawa's 'elves' wrap up 1,500 presents for students in need

HOLLAND, MICH. - Holiday elves from West Ottawa Public Schools were working hard Saturday morning to wrap up presents for students in need.

More than 50 students, parents and teachers wrapped nearly 1,500 gifts -- which were gathered for the district's 2017 Operation Toy Drive.

The student-ran toy drive is one part of their Month of Caring, where the entire district reinforces the importance of community service and philanthropy.

On Saturday, Dec. 16, the "elves" individually wrapped all the presents, which included homemade cookies, airplanes made by students in wooden workshop classes, LEGO sets, books, clothes, art supplies, snow pants and boots. The gifts are meant for students in need throughout the district.
