Police searching for hit-and-run driver that hit building, left passenger injured

PORTAGE, MICH. - The Portage Department of Public Safety is searching for the driver of a car who drove his car into a building and injured his passenger before running from the crash early Saturday.

Police say the crash happened just before 1:40 a.m. on Saturday on Portage Road. The drover was in a blue 2005 Cadillac CTS on Forest Drive when he ran the stop sign at Portage Road, crossed over five lanes of traffic and hit the building at 8847 Portage Road.

The driver's front seat passenger was injured in the crash and taken to Bronson Hospital for treatment. They are expected to be okay.

Police say the driver ran from the crash and has not been located at this time. He is described as a white man, 30-40 years of age, 6-foot tall with a thin build. He has a shaved head and a "scruffy" beard. He was last seen wearing black running pants and a black t-shirt.

Police believe that speed and possible drug use to be factors of the crash. The accident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Portage Department of Public Safety at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
