John Ball Zoo, Grand Rapids museum: Vote 'yes'

In November, the John Ball Zoo and the Grand Rapids Public Museum will ask Kent County voters to pay higher property taxes to support the institutions.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Supporters of the John Ball Zoo and Grand Rapids Public Museum are launching a campaign and backing a millage to provide funding for the facilities.

It's called the "Yes! Zoo and Museum" campaign.

A millage on the November ballot would provide money to operate the facilities. Supporters say the zoo receives a small amount of money from local government, while the public museum receives no annual public funding.

The millage would cost the average taxpayer about $37 a year, which would be added to their property taxes.
