GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - As Americans head to the polls for the election, we felt there was no better time to go over some important things to keep in mind for Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Darlene O'Neal from the Grand Rapids City Clerk's office joined the morning weekend news show with these tips:
1. Be prepared for longer lines. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and snacks.
2. Confirm your voting site at www.mi.gov/vote
3. Bring ID! ( Driver's license, state ID, passport, high school/college ID are all acceptable) In the event you do forget your ID, you will be required to fill out an affidavit at your polling location.
The Grand Rapids City Clerk's office is offering extended hours for people wanting to vote absentee in the upcoming election.
If you are unable to vote on election day, and would like to vote absentee in person, you can do so at the clerk's office in city hall.
The office is offering extended hours on Nov. 5, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be open during regular business hours.
You can register for an absentee ballot in Grand Rapids with a valid photo ID until 4 p.m. on Nov. 7.
